ABOUT
양주연은 광주와 서울을 오가며 작업하고 있다. 학부는 방송영상을, 대학원에서는 여성학을 전공했다. 한국사회에서 ‘여성’이 서사화되는 방식과 역사가 되지 못한 기억에 관심이 많다. 서울역 앞 양동 쪽방촌에 대한 단편 다큐멘터리 <양동의 그림자>(2013)를 시작으로 학교 비정규 청소노동자들을 다룬 <내일의노래>(2014), 외할머니의 80년 5월의 기억에 대한 <옥상자국>(2015)을 만들었다. <내일의 노래>는 제7회 부산여성인권영화제에서 우수상을, <옥상자국>은 제2회 사람사는세상영화축제에서 대상과 특별상을, 제13회 아시아나국제단편영화제에서 한국경쟁 대상을 수상했다. <양양>은 그녀의 첫 번째 장편 다큐멘터리이다. 본 작품으로 양주연은 2019년 라이프치히국제다큐멘터리영화제(DOK LEIPZIG) 코프로마켓에 선정되어 여성영화인에게 수여되는 최우수작품상에 특별 언급되었다. 2022년에는 핫독스 크로스커런츠펀드(Hotdocs CrossCurrents Fund)를 지원받았고, 독인큐베이터(Dok.incubator)에 참여하였다. <양양>은 제25회 전주국제영화제 한국 경쟁, 제21회 EBS국제다큐멘터리 페스티벌초이스(경쟁), 제26회 서울국제여성영화제 제32회 캐나다 핫독스 국제다큐멘터리영화제 등에서 상영되었다.
Yang Juyeon is a documentary filmmaker based in South Korea. With a background in Broadcasting and a master's degree in Women's Studies, she explores how women are portrayed or omitted in Korean society. Her 2015 film, 'The Trail of Grandma's Home,' which remembers the May 18th Democratic Uprising, won multiple awards at various film festivals. Her latest and first feature documentary, 'My Missing Aunt,' was supported by the Hot Docs CrossCurrents International Doc Fund and selected for the Dok.incubator international project 2022. The film is currently screening at numerous international film festivals, including the Jeonju International Film Festival, Hot Docs, and the Budapest International Documentary Festival.
